Helico Secours Sets the Record Straight

To curb confusion that is spreading in several circles, the Helico Secours solidarity cooperative wishes to inform the public that the emergency helicopter service the government will offer following the awarding of the contract to the western Canadian company Summit only concerns interhospital transport, meaning from one hospital to another. Pre-hospital emergency helicopter transport, in which the patient is picked up from wherever they are located and taken to a specialized hospital, is not included.

Alain Vallières, General Manager of Helico Secours, stated: "After AirMedic announced it would not continue its emergency helicopter transport services, having failed to secure the interhospital transport contract awarded by Quebec, many did not distinguish between interhospital transport, which is what’s at issue, and pre-hospital transport, which will not be covered by this contract. The latter occurs when a patient is transported from wherever they are located to a specialized hospital. In other words, there are no plans for the Quebec government and the Summit company to provide transport for patients who need to be picked up when they are not already at a hospital. This contract therefore does not apply to people in the forest, at an outfitter, or on a job site who are far from hospital centres."

Helico Secours solidarity cooperative is staying the course and will continue to serve its members. "We will continue our development wholeheartedly, to make emergency helicopter transport services increasingly accessible," concluded Alain Vallières.
